There’s no denying it; things are a little weird right now. We’ve been spending more time at home and with our loved ones, including the four-legged friends who share our lives. With that in mind, we thought it would be nice to take a look at some of our favorite feline-themed Scout Books from illustrators near and far.
Kristen Solecki
Artist and illustrator Kristen Solecki designed these Cat Moods notebooks as part of a series partially inspired by her own cat, Ally. All of her work is created using ink, gouache, and or collage, because she loves the genuine, tactical feel it gives to her illustrations. And what could be cozier and more tactile than cats and yarn? Check out her online shop for more high-quality kitty content, including prints and cards.

Oh My Dollar! & ALIAS x AHNA
Cats shouldn’t have financial concerns, but humans certainly do! Lillian Karabaic was frustrated with the lack of queer-friendly, feminist, and, most of all, fun personal finance education, so she developed A Cat’s Guide to Money: Everything You Need to Know to Master your Purrsonal Finances, Explained by Cats. The book itself is 212 pages and full of incredibly adorable cat illustrations by ALIAS x AHNA, and this little Scout Book is a matching budget planner that will help keep your $$$ planning on track.

Stasia Burrington
We like our cats like we like our coffee: from darkest black to the lightest light, and at all levels of sweetness! Stasia’s three pack of Scout Books warmed our hearts more than oat milk latte on a crisp Portland morning. Not only does she use these notebooks for her own notes and brainstorming, but she’s also been selling them at cat conventions like Cat Con, Sea-Meow Con, and POP Cats! Check out Stasia’s Etsy shop for art pieces that wander from whimsical to ethereal and back again. (We’re big fans of the Magical Neko Playing Card and Oracle Deck.)

Wordstock & Carson Ellis
In 2015, Scout Books partnered with Literary Arts on a limited edition trio of notebooks for Wordstock, featuring illustrations from Carson Ellis, Rilla Alexander and Christian Robinson. All three illustrators also participated in the day’s programming, reading from books they’d illustrated. Five years later, Carson is still an amazing artist, Wordstock is now called the Portland Book Festival, and we all still believe in the power of reading! You can learn more about the festival and this project in our Case Study.

Ana Hurtado-Gonzalez
One of our favorite things at Scout Books is seeing projects that come from our incredibly talented team! Ana is one of our press operators, and a musician, and a printmaker, AND creates illustrations that are an unending source of delight for her coworkers and friends. The cat on this Scout Book has some strong opinions and, conveniently, a thought bubble with which to express them. Whatever your daily grump might be, this kitty is ready for it. Check out more of Ana’s work on Instagram, visit her website, or catch her at art pop-ups right here in Portland!
