Few things get us feeling better than a delicious cup of tea here at Scout Books, and we get even more excited when it’s from a fellow B Corp with sustainable practices and involved in bringing clean drinking water to farmers in Madagascar. That’s Numi Tea, a California-based tea company with a focus on well-being and high quality ingredients. We worked with Numi to create these Mega Scout Books, which they are using to support the launch of a new line of herbal teas. We talked with Lark from Numi about creating the books for their campaign, and why they partnered with Scout Books to make it happen.
Can you tell us a bit about Numi?
Numi Organic Tea inspires well-being of mind, body and spirit through the simple art of tea. A labor of love created by brother and sister, Ahmed and Reem Rahim, the company began in 1999 in Oakland, California. Numi’s ethos is rooted in the principle of creating a healthful product that nurtures people and honors our planet. Our teas are made with the highest quality organic, non-GMO ingredients that are sourced directly from Fair Trade Certified TM and Fair Labor tea gardens. We use only real fruits, flowers, and spices, making for unique, balanced and authentic-tasting blends.
How are you using these holistic journals? Why did you choose to partner with Scout Books to create them?
We recently launched a new line of Holistic Herbal Teasans, an assortment of delicious herbal blends focused around positive intentions like Balance, Gratitude, Presence, etc. Each is thoughtfully crafted using premium organic herbs, flowers, and spices blended to support inner well-being and infuse positivity from the inside out. To celebrate the new Holistic Teasans and invite people to #SteepUp their inner well-being, we created mindfulness journals with Scout Books that feature intention-based meditations, daily pledges, mandalas to color, and journaling space to reflect. Scout books was perfect to partner with because of the high quality products, beautiful designs, and practical size. As a founding B Corporation, we also like to partner with fellow B Corps and support those who use the power of their business for good.
We love the designs in the book, from the cover to the artwork inside for coloring (or just admiring). Who created/where is the artwork from?
A majority of the artwork was created by our co-founder Reem and her husband Rachid. An artist by trade, Reem’s paintings originally decorated the front of all Numi tea boxes and have served as a major inspiration for Numi’s brand vision. Rachid used watercolors to bring the unique ingredients in our Holistic Teasans to life, and Reem drew the mandalas to support the theme of inner well-being and mindfulness. The illustrations for the coloring pages were sourced to complement Reem’s original artwork, while also reflecting the ingredients from the tea they represent. Reem, a deeply spiritual person, crafted the meditations, pledges and intentions within the books that are focused on the each of the Holistic blends: Gratitude, Presence, Purpose, Vision, Embrace, and Balance. The white ink of the mandalas printed beautifully on the gray cover paper that Scout uses.
We love hearing about the great work that other B Corps are doing to make business a force for good. Do you have a favorite initiative or story that illustrates the good work Numi is doing?
Our commitment to celebrating people, planet and pure tea goes deep. In addition to improving livelihoods as a top purchaser of Fair Trade CertifiedTMingredients, we also support Together for H2OPE, a non-profit Numi Foundation initiative that provides clean drinking water to our farming communities around the world. The first Together for H2OPE program was completed in Madagascar, where we built 23 wells serving 4,000 turmeric farmers and their families. An even bigger program is currently underway at the largest Fair Trade tea estate in India, and the initiative expands to Egypt and South Africa next. Cup by cup, we’re committed to supporting our global farming communities who lack access to clean, safe drinking water.
Huge thanks to Numi for choosing Scout Books for their project, and to Lark for taking the time to speak with us! We definitely recommend checking out Numi’s selection of teas, and see the video Numi created about the H2OPE Madagascar Project here.
