Art director and designer Charmaine Choi decided to include a custom Scout Book as part of her wedding invitation suite. She worked with her friend Annie Lim to design a delightful guide to New York. This pocket-sized guide highlighted Charmaine and her fiancée Patrick’s favorite spots around town. This terrific project featured maps on the inside front and back cover, and floral illustrations by Annie. We were thrilled to see the invitation suite featured on For Print Only!
Charmaine answered a few questions about the project:
What inspired you to create a custom Scout Book for your wedding invitation?
We knew that most of the people attending our wedding were from out of town. And for many of them, it would be their first time to NY. We wanted to create something personal for them to use so they can see NY through our eyes. I also knew as soon as I wanted to do a book, Custom Scout was the printer as I visited their wonderful booth at the NSS (National Stationery Show).
Can you tell me a bit about the lovely design and illustrations?
I love doing one color designs as it instantly makes everything look classier to me. Overall, our style is vintage inspired with a hint of charm. This goes with the theme of our wedding and we love the natural kraft paper Scout Books provided for the cover as it feels very Fall to us, which is when our wedding is set. The floral illustrations on the front and back covers were done by a close and talented friend Annie Lim. You can check out more of Annie’s work here.
Do you have a background in design?
Yes, I am a freelance art director/designer and on the side I do production design for films. It was a little more difficult being my own client as I went through rounds of designs with a more traditional approach of just one piece of paper. When I settled on a custom scout book, I was able to finish the design in a few days.
Many thanks to Charmaine for allowing us to share her invitation suite.
