Jetpack is a free plugin for WordPress sites that helps users better manage their sites. Its features help users gain insight on their traffic, increase site security, and speed up image loading. Jetpack has been ordering Scout Books for many years – by their estimation, they’ve gone through 50,000 notebooks! They’ve used different designs for different events or campaigns, but the green space illustration is a standby, originally designed by team member David Whitley. They recently worked with designer J.J. Springer to give the design a refresh, and opted to add green staples. Says Stephen Quirk, who manages sponsorships and outreach for Jetpack:
Scout Books have been a staple of ours for a few years. It's a unique piece of swag that people tend to hold onto after they leave the venue. As an attendee, it's nice to have something handy for taking notes at a WordCamp session, or to quickly sketch an idea. You'd be surprised at the number of designers I see who love having something a bit more tactile than a computer.
Their sharp Pocket Scout Books are distributed at events, including WordCamps, which bring together WordPress developers, designers, and marketers. They are hosted nearly every week in cities around the world. In 2015 there were 89 WordCamps with over 21,000 attendees, and the numbers grow each year. Jetpack sponsors every WordCamp, and attends many of them. Quirk says the community is both surprising and exciting, and “it’s not something you’d expect from a web-based content management system.
